COS Nursing Students Complete Special Training Class

On June 27th ,twelve lucky College the Sequoias nursing students completed a 3 week specialized certificate course on peri- operative nursing sponsored by the Health Workforce Initiative. The short-term training program was provided to recent and current registered nursing students in effort to boost employability once they have completed the 120 hour internship program at local hospital operating rooms. Students were very excited and pleased to participate in such a highly specialized area of nursing; as it is rare for new RN graduates to obtain employment directly in the operating room without several years of previous work experience. However, hopes are high that with this additional experience and training these students will be working full time as soon as they graduate from COS.

This program was a collaborative endeavor between COS, the Health Workforce Initiative and the COS Business, Industry and Community Services division. The Health Workforce Initiative provided grant funds for this training and is a statewide program sponsored by California Economic & Workforce Development Division of the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office.
