U.S. Department of Labor Releases News of New Grant Opportunities

On September 9th, 2015 the United States Department of Labor put out a News Release about new grant opportunities. The Department of Labor plans to provide over 34,000 new apprenticeships, an equivalent to $175 million in American Apprenticeships Grants, to 46 public-private partnerships. The goal is link the efforts of current employers, nonprofit organizations, local government and education system to individuals that want to learn the fields of many high-growth and high-tech industries; such as but not limited to: health care, IT and advanced manufacturing. Straight from the U.S. Department of Labor recent News Release, “In fact, 87 percent of apprentices are employed after completing their programs, with an average starting wage above $50,000. The return on investment for employers is also impressive- studies from around the globe suggest that for every dollar spent on apprenticeship, employers get an average of $1.47 back in increased productivity, reduced waste and greater front-line innovation.”
