RHT DSN SHELLEY ATTIX PRESENTS CAREER WORKSHOPS AT THE 68th ANNUAL CA FHA-HERO STATE CONFERENCE IN FRESNO – APRIL 26th.

FHA-HERO, (Future Homemakers of America), the California affiliate of Family, Careers and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) held their annual state conference and competitions in Fresno, on April 25-28th. FHA-HERO is a career technical organization for students in grades 7-12th who are enrolled in Home Economics CTE programs such as; Nutrition Science, Hospitality, Tourism, Recreation, Fashion Merchandising and Consumer Sales/Service. FHA-HERO is not only strong in rural areas of California… there are currently 24 FHA-HERO Clubs in Los Angeles, alone. Ms. Attix presented “RHTLE Sector Careers” and Guest Service GOLD information to statewide FHA youth leaders and their H.S. Advisors.

Through 2015, H.S. and College RHT Instructors may receive a Free Review Copy of the Guest Service GOLD Certification (with test materials for one large cohort of students), valued at over $1K per school. The students who pass this national industry-recognized career exam (Certified Guest Service Professional “GOLD”), will receive the official Gold Pin and frameable Certificate that designates them a C.G.S.P. with the American Hotel & Lodging Assoc Education Inst. This will give students an inside track on interviewing for jobs in the Hotel Industry nationwide (including Lodging/Food & Beverage Operations and Convention Centers), and is a marvelous addition to any Career Portfolio. California is the #1 most visited State in the U.S. Visitors to the Central/Mother Lode Region often pass through Rte. 99 and Hwy. 5 on their way to Yosemite National Park (#3 Attraction in California). Yosemite has seen an increase in Tourism from 2.4 Million visitors a year in 2013, to a new level of 3.44 Million! Small Business opportunites focused on Ag. and Nature-based Tourism (including Adventure and Heritage Tourism) abound. DSN Attix attended the California State Ag-Tourism Summit in Woodland, April 8th. Hosted by UC-Davis Extension, the attendees have decided to focus on improved youth hospitality education in the state, and are currently applying for a USDA Grant to underwrite further Ag-Tourism innovation in California (including additional Regional Meetings and formation of a Trade Association).
