Background:

Specializing in small business and entrepreneurship for 25+ years, Alese serves the Central Valley and Mother Lode Region as the Small Business Deputy Sector Navigator for the Doing What MATTERS for Jobs and the Economy framework out of the California Community Colleges Economic and Workforce Development department. She is hosted by San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, California.

Alese works with fourteen community colleges in the Central Valley and Mother Lode Region of California to facilitate the expansion or improvement of small business and entrepreneurial studies in an effort to help students be more job ready or explore entrepreneurship. In her work, she represents community colleges in partnership with high schools, universities, local business, economic development and workforce programs in an effort to help prepare students as 21st Century Workers.

Alese started her career in accounting and franchise operations and shortly became intrigued with entrepreneurship. She then franchised 2 convenience store/deli locations for fourteen years.  She then took her business experience to help other businesses grow as a Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Director, Chamber Director and Retail Operations Manager of 10 locations in the decorative plumbing industry.

Alese is passionate about small business and its value within the local community. She enjoys forming collaborative partnerships to drive jobs and the economy. Alese earned a Bachelor of Business from Western Illinois University and a MBA from North Park University, where she is also an adjunct faculty member.  Alese has also served on several economic development, nonprofit and chamber of commerce boards.

Sector Need: Nearly every community college in California provides coursework or program offerings to educate entrepreneurs and/or small business owners. Since Small Business and Entrepreneurship is not limited to one industry sector, the coursework and programs being developed can cross almost every discipline.

The mission of the Small Business Sector is to work together with industry and education to improve and expand our business and entrepreneurial curriculum so we better deliver a job-ready workforce and entrepreneurial leaders to ensure California’s economic growth and global competitiveness.
